COMM 403 Public Relations and Crisis Communication
I'm currently taking Public Relations and Crisis Communication during the Fall 2023 semester. In this course, I've learned about the steps taken during crisis communication. During these steps, I've created various plans based on crisis prompts that align with the step I'm currently learning. I chose The Chrysler Museum of Art as my organization and natural disaster as my crisis type.
Environmental Scan
The first assignment was an environmental scan on the Chrysler Museum of Art. This was comprised of a basic background, stakeholders, assets and vulnerabilities, major threats, and preparation, response, and recovery. This is done during the pre-crisis stage.
Prevention Plan
Following the environmental scan, I received my first prompt for the natural disaster crisis. This prompt states a new variant of the COVID-19 virus has been discovered and a guest who recently visited has notified the organization they have tested positive. Based on this prompt, I created a prevention plan for the museum. All quotes are made up to simulate real statements. This is the early crisis stage.
Containment Plan
The containment plan included the internal and external messaging that would be sent out regarding the crisis during the mid-crisis phase. This includes examples of messages in various formats, such as emails, social media posts, and press releases. All quotes are made up to simulate real statements.
Standing Crisis Plan
The standing crisis plan contains essentially all the content from the previous plans in addition to added contact information, chain of command, and additional messaging strategies.
