I'm took persuasion during my Fall 2023 semester. I learned about many of the theories surrounding how people are persuaded and all the factors that come into play. I also liked getting to analyze various pieces of content to determine the different audiences that are likely to be persuaded and what aspects of them are persuasive.

Below you can find assignments I've completed along with descriptions of the assignment!

COMM 333 Persuasion

Persuasion Inventory
and Essay

For this assignment, I kept a detailed list of acts of persuasion I encountered over the course of 48 hours. Following this, I wrote an essay analyzing how persuasion influenced me in my day-to-day life. I reference course materials to reflect on theories of persuasion and how they played a role in my experiences.

Attitude Scales Assessment

After learning about attitudes scales; Likert, Semantic Differential, and Visually-Oriented, I created a blog post detailing their purposes, benefits, and criticisms along with examples of two of the three scales. Additionally, I used the Elaboration Likelihood Model and Theory of Reasoned Action to theoretically analyze the different factors that can influence a participant's response to the scale. My blog post can be found by clicking here!

Artifact Analysis

In the Artifact Analysis blog post, I chose a movie and used theories and topics in persuasion learned up until now to analyze how persuasion was used within the film and to the audience watching the film. I chose Barbie as my film and used the Social Comparison Theory, Social Judgment Theory, and Elaboration Likelihood Model/Theory of Reasoned Action to analyze my film. My blog post can be found by clicking here!

Brand Analysis Video

The Brand Analysis assignment was intended for me to choose five (5) advertisements from a brand of my choosing and analyze them based on motivational appeals we had learned in the course. For my brand, I chose Aerie. You can find my video analysis on my blog or by clicking here!
